About the event

Please join the Madison Township Historical Society at their September  meeting to welcome Civil War expert Darryl R. Smith,( a graduate of Miami University and Butler County, Ohio native), who will be speaking on the role of Butler County citizens in the Civil War.  Also present will be fellow historian Mike Trent, who has some interesting tidbits to share about Abraham Lincoln's visit to our area.

That's Thursday September 12, 7 p.m. at Pleasant Ridge United Methodist Church.

Darryl  has spoken to various Civil War Round Tables and historical organizations, and had led dozens of tours at Civil War sites in Kentucky as well as tours at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati and Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton.  He is the owner of Walking With History LLC, a tour guide service for various Civil War and Ohio Indian War sites.

Smith is a member of several Civil War organizations and is co-founder of the Western Theater of Civil War, where he has written numerous blog posts on a variety of topics. He has also collaborated with other historians to write for Perryville Ponderings, a blog dedicated to the Battle of Perryville and the Kentucky Campaign.  Smith has self-published three sets of Civil War letters and has put together a guide on the War Department Tablets of Fort Donelson National Battlefield. He is active in Civil War Augusta and resides in Cincinnati with his wife Jennifer.
